Frequently asked questions

Details about ICO frames, source formats, package contents and private browser processing.

Why does favicon.ico appear to contain three images?

An ICO file is a multi-resolution container. This generator stores 16×16, 32×32 and 48×48 frames inside one favicon.ico so browsers and operating systems can choose the sharpest size for each context.

Should each favicon size be a separate ICO file?

Usually no. One multi-size favicon.ico is the established browser-compatible format. Separate PNG files are included for modern browser, Apple touch icon and Android manifest use cases.

Which source image formats are supported?

You can start with SVG, PNG, JPG or WebP. SVG is rendered locally with ReSVG, while raster sources are resized on a browser canvas without uploading the file.

What is included in the downloaded ZIP?

The package contains one multi-resolution favicon.ico, six PNG sizes, site.webmanifest and a text file with copy-ready HTML link tags.

Are source images uploaded to a server?

No. Reading, rendering, resizing and packaging all happen locally in your browser. The selected source image is not sent to asvg.
